Workshop Bliss

Hallo from Worcester, South Africa. It is the 5th day of March 2019 and we are moving towards autumn in South Africa.

Isn’t it amazing how seaons change so quickly? The sun is already starting to come up a bit later and going down a bit earlier. The air is cooling down at night, but we still have a couple of really hot days coming. My two favorite seasons are autumn and spring when everything in nature goes to sleep and wakes up again 6 months later.

Of course, for those of you who are winter knitters only, it is time to start unpacking the stash and for us year round knitters, it is time to re-evaluate our winter wardrobe and think about what needs to be added. I started with my first winter beany/hat, pattern written by Caitlin Hunter called Dyea. I will add the link below.

In the midst of all these natural changes I am embracing my own. As mentioned before, I have added workshops to my repertoire. I love teaching and seeing people achieve something that they thought they couldn’t. It is always exciting. I taught my first workshop last Saturday at Knitshoppelove in Simonstown. It was hosted at the home of the shop owner, Bronwyn Firth and it was such fun.

The Natural Dye workshop consisted of learning how to dye with natural, plant based dyes. I took a full kit for each student, but they also brought some of their own materials. They all ended up with some really stunning colors and I hope, with enough inspiration to dye up some more.

The next workshop is on the 5th to the 7th of April. That will be a 3 day workshop that will consist of learning to spin on a dropspindle, dyeing your hand dyed yarn with natural dyes and then making something with your hand made yarn. I will provide a full kit which includes all materials, tools and written instructions, except for dye pots, strainers and knitting tools.

I will be adding a separate workshop page with all the details of the pending workshops, so watch out for that.

On that note, I will love you and leave you for now.

See you again next week.
